40 Favorite Road Trip and Car Films

It’s time for the weekend and I can’t think of a better time to kick off my shoes, settle back in my favorite chair and enjoy a great road film or a fast car flick, so I thought I would share 40 of my all time favorite road trip and car films.  I hope readers of Cars for Girls will find something on my list that maybe they haven’t seen before, or at the very least, will find a few that spark memories of some favorites.  Of these, I think “Death Proof,” “Gone In 60 Seconds,” “Better off Dead,” ”Heart Like a Wheel” and “My Cousin Vinny” are among those that I can pop into my DVD player anytime and watch over and over, without getting bored.  The interesting thing is that in the films I just mentioned, women play an integral part in each story line.  Sadly though, in but only a handful of films on my list, women seem to take a backseat {no pun intended} to the male lead.

I’m sure there are a lot more films I haven’t heard of or simply skipped over because I didn’t think they would be worth watching, so if you’ve got a favorite that isn’t on the list, let me know by leaving a comment and I’ll look forward to giving it a test drive!

  1. I like to watch My Science Project for a car fix. The late sixties’ (not sure if it’s 67 or 68) model Pontiac GTO is awesome.

  3. Hi Missy! “My Science Project” is a great choice!

One of my favorite scenes is when Ellie’s car “breaks down” after school, leading Harlan to come to her “rescue.” ;)

    I believe Harlan’s GTO was a ’68.
