Black Friday Isn’t Just for Big Box Retailers
The tricky part about car shopping on Black Friday is that unlike regular retail purchases where you know exactly what you’ll pay for an item, car prices are individually negotiated the day of the sale. That makes it somewhat challenging for you to know ahead of time what kind of deal you may get. However, according to Toprak there has been a steady trend in previous years. Last year the average new car discount on November 27th was projected at 7.5%. However, the day prior to and after were both projected at 6%. Typically throughout the year, it’s around 4.7%.
Toprak’s theory is that car dealers want to jump on the Black Friday bandwagon just like other retailser. Brian Benstock, GM of NYC’s Paragon Honda agreed, “there’s a lot of noise in the market that day, and we have to stand out.”
Toprak says that dealerships always spend a lot of money on marketing for that day, however it’s not a particularly big day for car shopping. That reason could be exactly why you may score an even better discount while car shopping on Black Friday.
