Choosing a Credit Card to Earn Rebates on Gasoline
There are a few types of credit cards that give consumers rebates when they spend money on gasoline.
Station Specific Cards
There are what we would call “dedicated gas station credit cards”. For example, Shell, Chevron, Exxon all have their own credit card. In the past, these cards offered consumers a very good deal because they paid 5% rebates when you spend money at their gas stations.
However, with gas prices where they are now, credit card issuers simply cannot afford to pay these sort of rebates out. These cards now have formulas where they pay out 10 cents per gallon in rebates. Depending on where the price of gas is, your rebate percentage tends to vary.
The new formulas are actually less favorable than the old 5% formulas based on present gas prices. Some cards like the BP credit card still pays 5% rebates.
The main disadvantage of “station specific credit cards is that you will only earn rebates when you use that specific station. With gas stations having different prices depending on the location, it makes sense to have a card that allows you to earn extra rebates at any station.
Any Station Gas Credit Cards
Some cards, however, does allow you to earn rebates at all gas stations.Examples are the Chase Perfect Card and the Discover Open Road Card.
In my opinion, I’d rather have these cards over cards that just let you use them at a particular brand of gas station
Cash Back Credit Cards
You do not just have to get gas credit card to earn rebates on your gasoline purchase. Many cash back credit cards allow you to earn more than the standard 1% rebates on gasoline purchases. The better cards allow you to earn anywhere from 3% to 5% rebates. Furthermore, with a cash back credit card, you can also earn extra rebates on your supermarket purchases and even on things like utilities and drugstore purchases.
How to Find the Best Gas Rebate Card for You
1.) First, you have to ask yourself if you use just a particular brand of gas station or do you use a variety of gas stations.
2.) Secondly, you will want to check if you want to earn rebates for things other than gasoline purchases (for example, supermarket purchases).
3.) You also have to ask how much do you spend on gasoline each month. The reason is that some of these cards put a cap on how much rebates you can earn a month or a year based on your gasoline expenditure.
4.) You might also want ask yourself how you would like to receive your rebates. Some cards puts in a credit to your next statement while others will require that you ask for your rebate check.
Conclusion
While having the right credit card can help you save money on your gasoline, choosing the right one is a little tricky. It is best that you do your research and choose the best gas credit card for yourself.

I recently have had some credit problems. I liked my credit cards waaay too much. I think the best thing you can do to recover is to allow yourself enough time to straighten everything all out. Nothing happens overnight, especially fixing a credit score.
