Cool Car News and Awesome Sites Around the Web #2

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means another post linking to some of the coolest car sites, news and blogs on the web!  There’s something for everyone, so I hope Cars for Girls readers find something interesting today.

Over at Adweek, writer Kristi Faulkner takes on the advertisers during the Superbowl, who once again seemed to ignore the fact that women play an integral part in big game viewership:

“In most of the ads, though, women were simply eye candy that passed through the backgrounds. If I had to guess, I’d say those women walking determinedly behind Alec Baldwin in the Hulu spot were most likely on their way to a car dealership to make one of the 85 percent of all purchases they influence in a year. Probably not on the way to Audi, Toyota or Acura, judging by the advertising messages, but I’m just going on the information presented.”

Over at US News, they’ve revealed that the MSRP for the Honda Insight may be higher than consumers expected.  They cite multiple sources who have suggested the vehicle has already gone on sale at a price which is thousands of dollars above the original figure.

Two books made the list this week and both for different reasons.  The first is my pick for girls and young adults who are getting their very first car, while the second is one I would recommend to average Cars for Girls readers who want more information on car maintenance and repair.

1) This Girl’s First Car: Teenage Girls Guide to Safe Car Care & Easy Maintenance Tips

Written by teenager Stephanie Esterline specifically for a teen audience, this book has it all, including basic maintenance for first car ownership and useful information from how to change a flat tire to the importance of maintaining fluids and everything in between.  This Girl’s First Car: Teenage Girls Guide to Safe Car Care & Easy Maintenance Tips has been featured on AskPatty.com, TeenDriving.com, the Detroit Free Press and has been cited by the Girl Scouts of America

2) The Garage Girl’s Guide to Everything You Need to Know About Your Car

Written by Courtney Hansen of Spike TV’s Powerblock and TLC’s Overhaulin‘ and the author of the bi-weekly syndicated newspaper column Courtney Hansen: Full Throttle, this book is presented as a confidence builder to first time car owners and those interested in learning more about their cars. While the book may be somewhat simplistic in content for the more advanced, many will find it packed with lots of helpful information and answers to many automotive questions.

My favorite blogger of the week is Erica Ortiz, who takes on the big boys every day over at her blog, Horsepower and Heels.  Lots of awesome photos, drag racing news and Erica’s personal insights can be found during your visit. While you’re there, sign up for her newsletter you won’t be disappointed!

The first three-wheeled lithium-ion battery electric vehicle by Aptera has finally made an appearance.  Greentech Media says the electric car will go 100 miles on a charge, will reach speeds of 90 mph, and will go from 0 to 60 in about 10 seconds all at a price between $25,000 and $45,000.

Speaking of electric vehicles, the girls over at MyGreenWheels.com give us a look at the Swiss precision of the new Mindset, which claims to reach 100km/h in 7 seconds, has a top speed of 140km/h, a 200 km range after a six-hour charge and has a little combustion engine to kick in if battery juice is running low.

Edmunds reports that Ford’s testing of its latest safety technology Involves a lot of “hot air.”

Do you play online games or get into computer games?  Parking Dash is one of my favorites and I’ve been hooked for days.  There are two play modes; story and endless shift, 50 levels of  puzzle parking merriment and lots more. Get behind the wheel and shift into high gear by visiting the website where you can download a free trial or click here to view a game trailer, but beware – this is one game that’s awesomely addictive!

Looking to make some awesome decals and graphics for your ride? If so, check out DirectDecals.com, where you can design your own awesome car and vehicle graphics or choose from their huge library of pre-made graphics and logos.

Have a great week!
