Get Your Car Spring Ready

Get a thorough wash.

Don’t just simply get the cheapest wash available. You’ll want to get one that washes the undercarriage so it removes built up salt, dirt and asphalt; and will help prevent rust.

Replace your wiper blades.

The winter months can be extremely harsh on your wipers, so you’ll want to replace them especially if they’re dry or cracked. My personal theory on wiper blades is that you typically get what you pay for. I generally spend a little extra to make sure I get quality blades.

Check your coolant.

Your coolant system works harder in warmer weather, so you’ll want to make sure your coolant is at the recommended level. You may also want to have it flushed every other year as well.

Check your tires.

Make sure your tire wear is normal and new tires are not needed. Then, check your tire pressure. You’ll want to make sure they’re inflated to the recommended level. You can typically find this information in your driver’s manual or inside the driver’s side door.

Change the oil.

Make sure you have your oil changed as suggested by your owner’s manual. Regular oil changes help prevent engine wear and can even save you gas money.

Check your air filter.

A dirty air filter can make it harder for your engine to breathe and also decreases your gas mileage. Fortunately, air filters are fairly inexpensive and somewhat easy to change. You can also have a mechanic change it for you if you don’t have the necessary tools.

Get a tune up.

A poorly tuned engine can reduce fuel efficiency. To ensure your vehicle’s peak performance, get a tune up once a year. Spring time is a perfect time to do this, that way you don’t wait until it’s too hot. This will also give you the opportunity to check all fluid levels, belts, etc.
