Hit The Road
Since its summer, why not grab a friend or two, gear up your partner or gather up the kids, pile in the car and hit the road? In my family, when my brother and I were little, we would go on vacations which seemed to stretch out for months (even though in reality it was probably a week or less!) and when we weren’t fighting over who sat where and why, we actually enjoyed ourselves those cool crisp sheets at the Holiday Inn, the sparkling water in the pools that beckoned us to take a dip (or at the very least, put a toe in) and those crazy roadside attractions that made us giggle with excitement for all things odd and peculiar are just the stuff that great memories are made of.
While Highway 66, which ran from Chicago to Los Angeles and spanned 2,448 miles, is but a memory as well, you don’t have to go far to find fun on the open road. You can spend some time day trippin’ in your own state, hit the road for just a weekend or get behind the wheel to find a new place to call your very own.
If you’re out of ideas or need a jump start, here are some awesome landmarks and wacky destinations to get your motor runnin’ for a wonderful weekend:
