How OnStar Can Save You Money on Auto Maintenance

onstar2If you’ve ever considered purchasing a vehicle with OnStar, but keep putting it off for one reason or another, Onstar Vehicle Diagnostics may help make the decision a little easier.

OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics is a technology that connects drivers to their vehicles by sending a comprehensive email of current vehicle diagnostic data to OnStar subscribers.  The email is generated by collecting data from the vehicle’s computer sensors and sent by OnStar to vehicle owners, which provides a comprehensive update on many of the vehicle’s important systems.

Valuable maintenance information shared by OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics reports, which are then sent to customers via email, include tire pressure information, service notifications and status of oil and other fluids. This maintenance report serves as a handy tool to help drivers keep their vehicles in good condition and helps to prevent the added expense of unnecessary maintenance.  The Vehicle Diagnostics report also provides peace of mind by keeping drivers informed of the status of critical vehicle operation and safety systems, such as engine and transmission systems, stability control systems, airbag module and antilock brakes.

According to OnStar and GM, by following the tire pressure alerts in e-mails and keeping tires properly inflated, subscribers can save an average of $70 each year in fuel costs. By following the oil life alerts in the monthly e-mail report, an average subscriber can save over $30 per year on oil changes.

OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics became available in 2005, on select 2004 and newer GM vehicles. The service currently has more than 3.5 million subscribers.

Customer feedback about OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics looks to be positive from the postings on Twitter (http://twitter.com/thereal_onstar).  Yes – even OnStar has a Twitter page.  Who doesn’t these days?

According to OnStar President Chet Huber, OnStar is seriously considering offering its services to other auto manufacturers, which would be awesome, especially for those who tend to steer clear of GM models, but who would like to have the OnStar option.   You can see the video by visiting this link to Fox Business.  To visit the OnStar official site, click this link to visit OnStar.com.

If you’re an OnStar user and have a story to share about the service (good or bad), I would love to know about your experience.  Leave a comment to tell me about it.
