How to Join a Car Club
Okay…let’s say you really want to learn more about cars, or maybe you like a specific car or even a specific make. How do you find others in your area who share the same interests? By finding and joining a car club!
Car clubs are an awesome way to meet people, share interests, learn new things, get involved in your community and have a lot of fun. Joining is simple, but sometimes its finding a car club that seems to be the most daunting task of all - but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re not sure where to start or you are having trouble finding others who share your passion for things on four wheels, here are some sure-fire ways you can find information on joining a local car club in your area, joining online – or both.
• What’s Your Pleasure?
The best place to start is to determine which makes and models you’re most interested in or which you would enjoy learning more about. Let me say, there are thousands of car clubs ranging from those that have a few members, to others which have hundreds of car enthusiasts. There are classic car clubs, high performance car clubs, car clubs for specific makes like Toyota or Chevy – the list is endless!
• Local, Online or Both
Decide whether you’d like to join a car club located in your local area or online or perhaps even both!
You can use a search engine to look for car clubs in your area – or around the world. Simply type in the words car clubs and you’re sure to get quite a few results. If you find one or two that seem interesting, contact the member via email for more information. If you decide to join an online car club, you can do fun stuff like post photos of your ride and share stories and ideas.
There are also online car forums, which rarely require any membership fees and are used by both novice and hardcore enthusiasts alike. It’s as simple as signing up with a user name and password.
If you use social networking sites such as MySpace or Facebook, there are literally hundreds of car enthusiasts to network with and learn from.
A great resource for local car clubs is to check the Local Events section of your newspaper this is where you’ll usually find upcoming meetings and announcements which have been placed by car clubs in your area. You can contact them via phone or email to ask about membership, or you can attend a local event and talk to members in person. Local newspaper supplements will also provide upcoming events in your area and the website of your local newspaper or television station also post upcoming community events, as well.
You can also check mainstream automotive magazines, however some events may be held a good distance away from your local area or outside a comfortable driving zone. Don’t despair however you can always contact the club and inquire about future events which could possibly be held closer to your area.
• What’s Due?
Some car clubs require their members to pay dues a fee which covers things such as advertising, maybe yearly banquets, trips, newsletters, etc. If you’re considering joining a car club where you’re required to pay dues or a membership fee, make absolutely certain to ask what the money is used for.
• Be Active
Once you’ve found a car club, it’s time to get involved, so be an active member, attend events, volunteer your services, meet new people, make new friends and have fun!
