In The Pink: Pink Ladies Make Safety Top Priority
If you haven’t heard of the Pink Ladies, it’s time you did. The Pink Ladies is a women-only private car hire service. Customers (women only, please) sign up as members. Fares are pre-paid, paid by credit card or paid by an exclusive pink account and reservations are taken over the phone with a text message or phone call to notify you that your car is approaching, which for safety measures, means no more waiting outside. All drivers (also women) are trained in both self-defense and first aid and will wait outside until you get into your home or destination safely. The vehicles are painted a bright Pepto-Pink, so there’s no way you can miss them as they pick you up and take you on your travels.
The Pink Ladies was founded by Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders after Dutton had a conversation with her daughter, who was concerned about her safety when she was the last person left in a taxi after a night out. Dutton and Winders got together, discussed the possibilities of a women’s-only cab service, did their research, spoke to safety organizations, developed a concept and in 2005, the Pink Ladies were officially ready to roll.
You know I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea a hired car service by women for women, which could effectively work in any major city because safety concerns are paramount, no matter where you live. The only downfall is that the Pink Ladies are only located in the UK with franchises in Bombay, Dubai and Moscow, and currently (as far as I know) there isn’t a franchise on this side of the pond but that shouldn’t stop other forward thinking, savvy entrepreneurs from opening their own franchise or starting a similar business right here in the States. After all, there are pet taxi’s and kid taxi’s, both started by people who saw a need and filled it. In fact, if I had the financial backing, this is a business I could really sink my teeth into.
Sadly, the Pink Ladies website is currently down for maintenance, with plans to re-launch next month, but in the meantime, you can visit an article posted just last week at Wales Online by clicking here.
