iPhone Apps for Busy Drivers
There probably really is an iPhone App for everything – including those of us who drive, travel and need information on a dime.
While I was over at the iPhone site yesterday, I spied some awesome apps that I thought were really cool (list below). I don’t have an iPhone, however eventually when my finances allow, I hope to purchase one, and the apps seem to really make everything worth the cost of a purchase – especially when the apps themselves are generally very reasonable in price. I think the extra few dollars spent on an app could save me many hours looking for a location, trying to remember where I parked (especially during the holidays when every parking lot is crammed full!), and if I need to, I can get an app to help me convert money, map a trip, find a street – and more.
Below are some apps I think are awesome. What do you think? Do you use any of the following apps – or maybe you have suggestions for other apps to use during daily driving, road tripping, or saving time behind the wheel? If so, please share.
Get a Parking Reminder: G-Park
With the G-Park application, we’ll never again forget where we parked the car. Upon locating a parking place, simply tap “Park Me!” After shopping, tap “Where Did I Park?” and we can then follow the turn-by-turn directions to our car. Absolutely effortless!
Extra Tip: Set the timer on the iPhone, and we can be alerted when it’s time to plug the meter.
Call a Cab: Rocket Taxi
Rocket Taxi locates us via GPS or Wi-Fi and then finds taxi companies located nearby. We can then choose a cab company by star rating, bookmark our favorite companies, map our start and end locations, and even get an estimate on cab fare. Tap once to call a cab – and we can even rate the company we use, so others can benefit from our taxi savvy.
Speak the Language: Lonely Planet Mobile Phrasebooks
Lonely Planet Mobile Phrasebooks provides text and audio translations of common words and phrases from English into German, Japanese, French, Spanish – even Cantonese – and more! With more than 350,000 translations and a multilingual slang dictionary, we can finally communicate like never before!
Consult the Experts: Frommer’s
Instead of wasting time trying to find hotels, motels, restaurants, and attractions, iPhone users with this app can ask the travel experts at Frommer’s. Download a Frommer’s guide for where you are – London, New York, Paris, or San Francisco – and then tap your way to the best each city has to offer.
Get Converted: Currency
With this app, you can determine conversion rates for more than 90 currencies worldwide. Simply choose a master currency, enter an amount, and see what that souvenir would cost back home.
Fuel Up: Gas Cubby
Is it possible to be able to track gas mileage easily? When using the Gas Cubby app, it seems we can. Just enter all the information, and the app lets us track mileage data for multiple vehicles, create charts, and even export the data to a spreadsheet.
Extra Bonus: Gas Cubby also tracks vehicle maintenance and can even remind us when it’s time to change the oil!
