Let’s Talk Trucks: 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Let’s talk trucks for a change.

When I was growing up, my family had at least one truck parked in the driveway, and today it’s no different; my parents still have a truck okay, now they own two and I also own both a car and a truck.  I don’t know what I’d do without my truck I’ve had it for a long time, it’s been paid off for years and while we could buy a new one, we won’t.  In fact, we have yet to even consider purchasing a new truck.  Someday, I’m sure we’ll get around to buying a new one, but for now, we’re happy with our 1997 Chevy and because it’s had no major repair problems or unexpected surprises, hopefully we’ll be able to keep the ol’ girl for a few more years.

If you’re in the market for a new truck, have you checked out the new Dodge Ram 1500?  According to the Dodge website, the new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 has more than 35 new – or improved features, such as a 5.7-liter HEMI, which produces 380 hp and 404 lb.-ft. of torque, and the R/T regular-cab 4×2 model with a short bed, goes from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds.

The new Dodge Ram 1500 also has an improved frame design that incorporates high-strength steel supports and all new, multi link coil spring rear suspension that improves ride and handling characteristics without sacrificing payload – up to an estimated 1,850 pounds - and towing capability, up to an estimated 9,100 pounds.

The line features an available RamBox cargo management system which provides weatherproof, illuminated, lockable and drainable storage compartments, which are integrated into both fender sides for access and convenience. The RamBox system also includes a bed divider/two-foot bed extender for oversize loads and a sliding, adjustable rail system. Also available is a pair of “store in the floor” bins with removable liners for even more storage.

The interior features redesigned controls, chrome accents, premium seating with improved bolsters and two-tone upholstery.

According to what I’ve read, the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 has received some great accolades and good reviews from the automotive industry, as well:

• Consumer Guide hailed it a Best Buy for 2009 in the Large Pickup category
• MotorWeek bestowed the truck with its 2009 Best Pickup Truck award at MotorWeek’s Driver Choice Awards
• Texas Auto Writers Association claimed it to be the Full-Size Pickup Truck of Texas”
• Cars.com called it the Work Truck of the Year
• It was awarded Best New Pickup Truck by the Automotive Journalist Associates of Canada
• Truckin’ magazine called it the “2009 Truck of the Year”
• Edmunds lists the Ram 1500 among it’s Most Wanted Vehicles of 2009

I can’t imagine not owning a truck. All the trucks I’ve owned have never failed to get me through snow in the winter, mud in the spring, through numerous moves, hauling furniture, gravel, wood and railroad ties, bushes and yard waste and so much more.  In fact, I don’t know what I would do without one.

How do you feel about trucks?  Do you own one? Have you considered purchasing a new truck or have you already bought a new truck this year?  Do you own the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 and if so, what is your favorite feature? Brag about your truck in the comments!

  1. Love trucks!! We have almost always had a truck, they are GREAT!! Right now we have an ’81 Ford Truck it has been great, this truck has come in handy in a pinch, like when the car breaks down (which is currently!) The only thing I want in a new truck is that it be an extended cab so that we can get more that three people inside!!!!

  2. Hi Nora: Yay – It sounds like you’re a truck fan, too! :) The extended cabs are really nice, especially in the full size Dodge 1500. My parents have one and it’s awesome! :)

  3. i love this truck :D
