Ronn Scorpion: Hydro – Power

If this looks just a little like the car Batman drove back in the 1960’s, then you and I think alike, but this is no gas guzzling car of old, it’s the recently unveiled Ronn Scorpion, manufactured by start-up company Ronn Motors, located in Texas.

What makes this car so appealing, other than its’ sleek styling and predicted ability to go 0 to 60 in just under 4 seconds, is the fact that it uses the first ever hydrogen fuel injection system, called a Hydrorunner, which increases gas mileage, decreases emissions and may get you about 40 miles to the gallon.

According to the Ronn Motor Company website:

Hydrogen Fuel Injection (HFI):
Produces hydrogen during vehicle operation through electrolysis of water using the power generated from the vehicles electrical system. A small amount of hydrogen added to the vehicles intake air/fuel mixture allows the engine to operate with less fossil fuel.

The downside is that first year production is limited to only 200 vehicles, but we should start seeing them hit the road in October when the first ones roll out.  I can’t wait to get a better look and gather more information on performance once consumers can actually get behind the wheel.  To date however, the Scorpion won’t be affordable for everyone and while prices start at $150,000.00, there are still vehicles on the market today which cost more, such as the Lamborghini and Rolls Royce, just to cite examples.  The Ronn Scorpion price may be comparable, but we should wait to determine exactly how it performs before jumping to any conclusions or comparisons.

The Ronn Motor Company is located in Austin, Texas and was founded by automotive entrepreneur Ronn Maxwell and former Dell Inc. executive Adrian Pylypec. According to its Mission Statement, the company is committed to manufacturing environmentally friendly vehicles with eco responsible alternative power systems, including hydrogen fuel, hydrogen fuel on demand, fuel cells, and plug in electrics.

If you want a piece of the action, but can’t afford to place your order, public shares of the company are now being offered on Over The Counter Exchange under the ticker symbol RNNM.

  1. Cool car! Not that I can afford it when it comes out but if I could I would be fretting over what to wear to match the car’s personality. I don’t have a cape to go with it. lol
