Safest Driving Moms Live in Texas

Do any Cars for Girls readers also visit MotherProof.com?  If not and you have kids, I highly recommend the website.

Jennifer Newman, a staff writer for the website and a mom of two herself, has a great feature article highlighting the results of a survey the website did, which identified 10 large metropolitan areas with the safest driving moms. The survey asked a range of questions, such as cell-phone use while driving, car-seat use, emergency maintenance knowledge, and the ability to prevent or ignore common driving distractions.

All moms interviewed were between the ages of 18 and 44 and have children who live with them who are under the age of 12.

According to their results, the survey found that moms who reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth market are the safest Mom-Drivers.  Congratulations, Dallas/Fort Worth!

The surveyed cities’ overall ranks (in order) are:

Dallas/Fort Worth
New York
Philadelphia
Houston
Los Angeles
Chicago
District of Columbia
Boston
San Francisco
Atlanta

According to their results, MotherProof discovered that while moms are safe and informed drivers overall, some cities’ moms are less cautious than others. For example, in Dallas/Fort Worth, 91 percent of surveyed moms knew that infants should be secured in rear-facing safety seats in the backseat, while only 60 percent of moms in Atlanta knew the safest placement of a child-safety seat.

They also found that in Los Angeles, 32 percent of moms surveyed said their children’s in-car activities cause them to drift in or out of a lane, miss a turn or cause an accident at least once per week.

Jennifer and Motherproof.com offer up some great tips to make driving safer and distraction-free:

1. Find a distraction for your kids.
2. Turn off your cell phone (and if you have to make a call, pull over before doing so).
3. Eat before you leave the house.
4. Be prepared for emergencies.
5. Give your child-safety seat a checkup.

Have a safe weekend, everybody!
