Recently, Automotive News reported that Magna International Inc. had introduced a new auto lighting technology.  You’ve all seen the exterior lights on the bottom of side view mirrors.  They’re convenient for finding your vehicle in a dark parking lot, however the illumination doesn’t do much for increasing visibility before or while trying to open your door.

Magna has gone one step further and developed an exterior light that’s located under the door handles.  The practicality of the location provides much more lighting in the area you’re standing in and also helps you locate the door handle for quick access to your vehicle.  It shines on the ground beside the car from LED bulbs placed underneath both the front and rear door handles.

Not only is this new exterior lighting helpful to drivers, but there’s also a perk to manufacturers.  The lights can actually illuminate logos onto the ground, helping promote a company.  Just imagine the logos you might see and the aftermarket possibilities for businesses.

Currently Magna does not have a customer yet; however they anticipate their new lights to appear on a vehicle in 2012.  It’s undetermined at this point, if the initial lights will project simply light or potentially a logo specific design.
