Here at Cars for Girls, we’re really looking out for your best interest, which is why we share so many tips and tricks behind the wheel.  After all, the last thing we want to get is email from our readers telling us they’ve been tossed in the slammer for not following the rules. That said, here are some traffic laws I think our readers should be aware of.  Sure, some of them may be outdated and so odd that it makes you wonder what people were thinking when they thought these up, but believe it or not, some of them are still on the books making them currently binding and enforceable.  Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Alabama
It is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.

Alaska
While visiting Alaska, please remember it’s illegal to tether a dog to the roof of a car. 

California
• California law prohibits a woman from driving a car while dressed in a housecoat.  The state also makes it illegal to shoot any animals from a moving vehicle.
• In Glendale, it’s illegal to jump from a car going 65 mph.  It’s also illegal in Glendale to jump into a passing car –  or to drive a car in reverse.
• In my home town of Long Beach, cars are the only item allowed in a garage.
• While in San Francisco, remember it’s illegal to wipe your car with used underwear.

Colorado
• Car dealers may not show cars on a Sunday.
• In Alamosa, it’s absolutely illegal to throw missiles at cars.

Connecticut
In Bloomfield, it’s against the law to eat in your car, so remember to snack before you get behind the wheel.

Georgia
In Dublin, it’s illegal to drive through playgrounds.

Illinois
All cars must be driven with the steering wheel.

Kansas
• It’s against the law to drive a buffalo through a street.
• In Derby, it’s illegal to screech your tires while driving.
• Also in Derby, riding an animal down any road is against the law.
• In Lawrence, all cars entering the city limits must first sound their horn to warn the horses of their arrival.
• Musical car horns are banned in Russell.

Maryland
Swearing from a vehicle in Rockville is considered a misdemeanor.

Minnesota
• It’s illegal in Minnetonka to drive a truck which leaves behind mud, dirt or sticky substances on any road.
• In Minneapolis, red cars can not drive down Lake Street.

Missouri
In University City, it’s illegal to honk the horn of someone else’s car.

New Jersey
In Blairstown, it’s illegal to plant trees in the middle of the street.

New York
• It’s against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile.
• In Sag Harbor, it’s illegal to take off your clothes in your car.

Ohio
Before passing through Youngstown, better fill up the tank; it’s illegal to run out of gas there.

Oregon
In Oregon, a driver must yield to pedestrians when driving on the sidewalk.

South Carolina
In Hilton Head, remember it’s illegal to store trash in your vehicle due to rat problems.

Tennessee
• In Memphis, a woman is not allowed to drive a car unless a man warns approaching motorists or pedestrians by walking in front of the car that is being driven.
• It is against the law to drive a car while sleeping.

Texas
In Galveston, it’s illegal to have a camel run loose in the street.

West Virginia
Only babies can ride in a baby carriage.
