When Is The Best Time to Buy a New Car?

The best time to buy and drive your new car off the showroom floor is most likely when the time is right for you, however there are various times of the year when you might want to schedule a trip to the dealership to get the most for your money and drive home a sweet deal:
- End of The Year Deals: You’ve no doubt seen the commercials on television, generally starting in November and running right through January. The winter months are typically the slowest season for sales and a Year End Clearance boosts sales for the dealership and can offer you some deep discounts on most vehicles, which are left over inventory from the previous year.
- End of The Model Year: Again, more leftover inventory can mean more savings for you. During this time, dealerships are trying to move as many models off the lot as possible to make room for the new ones coming in. Buying now may mean substantial savings, but remember the vehicle will depreciate one year in value the minute you drive it off the lot and when you trade it in later, it will be recognized as being one year older than the year you bought it in. On the other hand, if it’s the car of your dreams and the price is right, it probably won’t make any difference to you in the long run.
- Rebates: When manufacturers offer rebates or other enticing offers, it’s a good time to give serious thought to your purchasing power, especially when the vehicle is brand new. Rebate sales are offered throughout the year, usually around holidays {Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.}, and can mean great savings in terms of financing, cash back or some other incentive to buy.
- End of The Month: Many dealerships really try to push vehicles at the end of the month, simply because they need to establish a monthly sales quota. If salesmen find themselves falling short, this is the time to offer deals. Chances are that although you may not reap the rewards of a deep discount as much as you would if you waited until the End of The Year event or for a substantial rebate, it’s still a good time to shop – especially if you need a car now.
Remember: Looking to buy an SUV immediately after a snowstorm isn’t the best time to haggle a discount, so do your homework, have a few cars in mind before you shop and compare prices as you go. This way, you’re assured of getting the right deal for you.
